Chapter 46

Mei Ling is forced to kneel down with her hands tied behind her back in front of Mei Chun and Mrs.Ton. The great room is full of the Ton’s people, including her family members and all the servants and maids, so that Mei Ling can be humiliated and punished. Mei Ling can see the tearful Kiu Wai being tied up to a chair next to Mei Chun.

Kiu Wai screams out when he sees Mei Ling being pushed down onto the ground by the men: Mei Ling! Please don’t hurt her! Please Mei Chun, let go of Mei Ling. If you want to blame, blame me. She’s innocent!

Mei Chun: You still defend her till this very minute in this situation you’re in? Unfortunately, she has to pay the price for hurting me. Don’t understestimate me Kiu Wai, you have no idea what I am capable of when it comes to hurting my feelings.

Kiu Wai tries break loose from the rope, but it’s useless. The only thing he can do is sit and watch Mei Ling to be punished.

Kiu Wai cries: Mei Ling! I love you! You’re the only woman I’ve ever loved. Please forgive me for taking back my marriage proposal to you. Please forgive me for marrying this evil woman. Please forgive me for not taking your blindfold off. And please forgive me for misunderstanding you. .

Mei Ling cries: No need for forgiveness Kiu Wai, because I’ve never blamed you. You’ve always been only one in my heart. Kiu Wai, we can’t blame anyone except our fate. We’re just not destined to be together.

Mrs.Ton to Mei Ling: You have no idea what the costs are for hurting my daughter.

Mrs.Ton to her men at the door: Bring him in!

Mei Ling turns around and is astonished to see her father being escorted in. She breaks down and cries as her father is kneeled down next to her.

Mei Ling: Father! Are you alright?
ML’s father cries: I am alright Mei Ling. Mei Ling, why are you tied up like this? What have you done?
ML’s father to Mrs.Ton: What has happened Mrs.Ton? What did my daughter do?
Mrs.Ton: Mr.Yung, you didn’t know how to discipline your daughter. You’re a teacher, but you never taught her not to steal other people’s possession.
ML’s father: What is it that she was stealing? I don’t believe that my daughter is a thief Mrs.Ton: You don’t? Ask her yourself!
ML’s father to Mei Ling: Mei Ling! Is that true?
Mei Ling cries with her head down: I am sorry for you to be humiliated like this.
Kiu Wai: Mr.Yung, don’t believe them. It’s not Mei Ling’s fault. These evil people have been trying to separate us for the past 7 years.

Mei Ling’s father looks over to Kiu Wai and is shocked to see that he too is being tied up. At that moment, he understands what is going on.

Mei Ling: Father, I have found my son.
ML’s Father: Who is it?
Mei Ling: Wai Sun!

Mei Ling’s father embraces her as she is crying.

Mrs.Ton to everyone in the room: What great lies this woman is telling, even before she dies. We have evidence she was trying to lure my son-in-law. My daughter and other men have witnessed this earlier tonight.

Mrs.Ton to Mei Ling: You are the employee of the Ton’s. Whatever crime you committed, you have to be punished the Ton’s way. Men, get your sticks ready!

Kiu Wai rocks his chairs with his body while his tears roll down his face: No! Hit me instead. Please, let me take the punishment for her.

Mei Chun is angier when she hears Kiu Wai’s beggings.

ML’s father: Mrs.Ton, please, let her go this time. I will take her home at teach her properly.

Mrs.Ton ignores the pleadings from Kiu Wai and Mei Ling’s father.

Mrs.Ton to Mei Ling’s father: Yes Mr.Yung, I will let you take her home, but her corpse though, so you can bury her properly.
Kiu Wai bursts out with his cry: NO! My Mei Ling! No! Please give me the punishment!

Mei Ling looks at her father: Please forgive me for not fulfilling my duties as a good daughter. I hope to be your daughter again in my next life.

Mei Ling’s father is sobbing and begging when he realizes that Mei Ling will have to die in order to get out of the Ton’s.

Mei Ling to Kiu Wai: Please take good care of our son for us. And don’t cry my love, I will always be with you no matter where I am.

Kiu Wai: Mei Ling! I will die with you. We can’t be with each other in this lifetime, but we will be together again in our next life, and the next, and for eternity. No one will be able to separate us anymore, not these evil people or deaths. You are the only woman for me, now and forever. I love you Mei Ling! I love you!

Mei Ling cries harder when she hears Kiu Wai declares his eternal love for her.

Mrs.Ton: Beat her until she faints. If she faints, wake her up and beat her again. Beat her until she’s bleeding to death and out of breath. She can’t leave this place until she dies.

The men take Mei Ling’s father to the side so he’s out of the way. Two men stand on each side of Mei Ling with their sticks pricked with sharp nails, and are getting ready in their position to beat her on her back.

Mei Chun: Wait! I want to be the first one to give her this punishment!

Mei Chun grabs the stick and is ready to hit Mei Ling, but a man’s voice stops her from doing so.

“STOP!”

“Stop immediately or else I kill her!”

Everyone looks to the entrance of the room and is astonished to see Tat Wah holding the gun to Wah Sin’s head.

Chapter 47

Wah Sin cries and begs her grandmother and her parents to save her as Tat Wah holds her as a hostage.

Mrs.Ton angrily asks: Tat Wah, don’t you dare hurt my granddaughter. What do you want?
An upset Tat Wah replies: I told you already. Let go of Mei Ling. I’m afraid your granddaughter would lose her life if you’re not in compliant with my demand.

Wah Sin pleads: Grandma, please save me! I don’t want to die!
Mrs.Ton angrily stomps her feet: I can’t believe this!

She turns to her men: Guys, untie her!

Tat Wah still has his gun at Wah Sin’s head while the men are untying Mei Ling.

Mrs.Ton: I’ve done with what you’ve asked. Now let go of Wah Sin!
Tat Wah: Now untie Kiu Wai also!
Mrs.Ton: What is this?! He’s my son-in-law! He can’t leave this place.
Tat Wah smiles: Then I will have to kill her then.

Wah Sin’s parents are crying and begging Mrs.Ton to release Kiu Wai.

Mrs.Ton and Mei Chun are angrier than ever at this demand.

Mrs.Ton: Alright then, release him.

The moment Kiu Wai and Mei Ling are released, they both run into each other’s arms. This causes Mei Chun to steam up with rage.

Tat Wah: Kiu Wai and Mei Ling, get behind me and let’s get out of here quickly.
Kiu Wai: Mei Ling, are you alright?
Mei Ling happily answers: Yes, I am fine.

Mei Ling turns to her father: Father, let’s go.

Mei Ling, Kiu Wai, and her father all run over to Tat Wah.

Tat Wah: Thank you Mrs.Ton for your cooperation. I won’t release Wah Sin until we get out of this place safely.

He then threw a stash of money right at Mrs.Ton’s feet: I’m giving you your dirty money back. I regret for accepting that dirty work every moment of my life since then. From now on, we don’t owe each other anything.
Mrs.Ton points at Tat Wah: You…..You…..!

Tat Wah to Mei Ling and Kiu Wai: I have the horse carriage right outside. Let’s go!
Mei Ling: Kiu Wai, we can’t leave without Wai Sun!
Kiu Wai: Let me go get him!

They all run, exiting the Ton’s mansion at the front entrance, and hop into the horse carriage that is waiting in the front. Mrs.Ton and Mei Chun follow them and stop behind the front door. Tat Wah is still standing at the door with Wah Sin as a hostage.

Mrs.Ton: Now let her go!

Tat Wah releases Wah Sin and jumps into the carriage.

Wah Sin: I’m sorry, I have to leave here. Take care Grandmother.

Mrs.Ton: I can’t believe you betray your family.
Mei Chun: Wah Sin, you’re leaving with them? How could you!
Mrs.Ton: Mei Chun, let her go. Once she steps out of this house, she won’t belong to the Ton’s anymore. Don’t ever come back here!
Wah Sin: Don’t worry grandmother, I won’t. I don’t want to be part of the family that hurt innocent people like Mei Ling. Tell my parents to take care. Good-bye Grandmother.

Mei Chun and Mrs.Ton stomp their feet as the horse carriage dash away.

In the carriage……

Mei Ling holds Wai Sun close to her and cries.

Mei Ling to Tat Wah: Tat Wah, I am so grateful that you saved all of us.
Tat Wah: You don’t have to Mei Ling. I couldn’t let you die again.
Kiu Wai: Thank you Tat Wah. Without your help, I would’ve lost Mei Ling already.
Tat Wah: Kiu Wai, you don’t have to thank me. It’s the least I could do.
Wai Sun: Where are we going Teacher Ling? And why are you crying?
Kiu Wai: Wai Sun, Teacher Ling here is your mother. This is very complicated to explain, but just know that she is your real mother. I want you to call her “mother” from now on.
Wai Sun to Mei Ling with a surprise look: You’re my mother?
Mei Ling cries: Wai Sun! Yes, I am your mother. I hope you’re not mad at me for not telling you before.

Kiu Wai and Mei Ling’s father cry as they witness this miracle reunion between Mei Ling and Wai Sun.

Mei Ling: Wai Sun, this is your grandfather.

Wai Sun and his new grandfather hug each other as Mei Ling and Kiu Wai smile with happy tears.

Kiu Wai to Tat Wah: How did you get Wai Sun in the carriage without us knowing, and how did you know about Mei Ling’s captivity?
Tat Wah turns to Wah Sin: You should all thank Wah Sin here. She came to me with Wai Sun in her arms and informed about Mei Ling and you being trapped by Mei Chun and her mother.
Mei Ling to Wah Sin: Oh Wah Sin, I can’t thank you enough. Thank you so much.
Wah Sin: You’re welcome Mei Ling. It’s about time for me to stand up to my unreasonable grandmother. I knew I had to save you the moment I learned about Mei Chun setting you up.
Kiu Wai: Thank you Wah Sin. I am really happy that you’re leaving with us too.
Tat Wah: I think I should get off right here. I think you’re all safe to go on.
Mei Ling with a shocking look: Tat Wah, where are you going?

Tat Wah asks the driver to stop the carriage. Mei Ling follows Tat Wah down as Kiu Wai looks on with a sad look. He just remembers that Mei Ling is to be married to Tat Wah.

Tat Wah: Mei Ling, you don’t have to follow me.
Mei Ling: What are you taking about?

Tat Wah asks Kiu Wai to come down before he answers to Mei Ling.

Tat Wah continues: Kiu Wai, I leave Mei Ling to you. Please take good care of her because she had suffered so much already.

Both Mei Ling and Kiu Wai look at each other with shock.

Tat Wah: Mei Ling, you belong with Kiu Wai.
Mei Ling: Tat Wah…
Tat Wah: Mei Ling, you don’t have to say anything. It’s alright. I will be fine. I really love you and I want to see you happy, and I know that you love Kiu Wai. I know that it’s always your dream to be with him. Nothing makes me happier than to see you smile.
Tat Wah to Kiu Wai: Kiu Wai, Mei Ling has always loved you. You’re the only person she loves. It’s my fault that you both have been separated for so long. This is the least at I can do for both of you.

Kiu Wai and Mei Ling look and smile sweetly to each other. Kiu Wai has a big grin on his face as he puts his arms around Mei Ling and pulls her to his side.

Kiu Wai: Tat Wah, thank you very much. I really admire your love for Mei Ling. Not a lot of men can do what you do, to give up a woman he loves, and I respect you for that.
Tat Wah: Yes, I truly love her, but I don’t want her to live with me while her heart is with you. Now the whole story has played out like this and you know the whole truth, it’s only right to let her choose the man that she has been searching for, which is you.
Mei Ling: Tat Wah, I don’t know how to thank you enough.
Tat Wah: If you both want to thank me, don’t let each other go anymore.
Kiu Wai: I will never let her out of my sight anymore, ever. Really Tat Wah, if it hadn’t been for your dirty work, Mei Ling and I would not have had a chance to get together to begin with. So thank you.
Tat Wah: Well, I’m very happy if you think of it that way.
Mei Ling: Tat Wah, where are you going?
Tat Wah: I’ll figure it out. I am going start a new life from this point on, put all of this ugly past behind me. Congratulations on your new life together and on your family reunion.

Kiu Wai and Mei Ling give Tat Wah their hugs before they hold hands and step on the carriage together.

On the carriage while everyone is asleep, Mei Ling whispers softly to Kiu Wai: When are we going to be arrived at your village?
Kiu Wai squeezes Mei Ling pulls her closer to his chest: We should be arriving there by dawn. By then, I will announce to everyone the arrival of the most beautiful bride the Tham village has ever had.

Chapter 48

The carriage is stopped in the middle of the green valley nearby Kiu Wai’s house. Kiu Wai steps down from the carriage and takes Mei Ling’s hand and helps her get down. He then holds both of her hands as they smile lovingly to each other.

Kiu Wai: My love, this is where you will spend the rest of your life with me. I will bring you all the happiness from my heart to you, and I hope that you will be happy with me here in this beautiful valley.

Mei Ling leans to Kiu Wai and puts her head against his chest. Kiu Wai feels the warmthness from Mei Ling, so he closes his eyes as he places a fulfilled grin on his face.

Mei Ling: As long as I’m with you, I will always be happy. It doesn’t matter where we are. Kiu Wai, in case you don’t know me, I just want to have a happy simple life here. This is exactly what I wanted when I came here to look for you eight years ago.
Kiu Wai: Mei Ling, I can’t forgive myself for not receiving you that day. I had caused us so much suffering and many turbulent years apart. At that time I didn’t realize that you are my other half. Can you forgive me my love?
Mei Ling shakes her head and places her finger on his lips: It was meant to be so that we could appreciate one another and treasure our love even more.
Kiu Wai: Thank you so much for understanding me. Mei Ling, standing here in my village with you is like a dream come true to me. I am so fortunate to have you in my life. I love you more than ever because you are the only woman that is sent from heaven just for me.

Just then, Mei Ling’s father wakes up and makes a little sound: Hmmmm….

Mei Ling and Kiu Wai turn around and giggle.

ML’s father: Sorry to interrupt you love birds, but are we there yet?
Kiu Wai: Sorry Mr.Yung, yes we are here at my homeland. Please come into my house.
Wai Sun: Mother!

Mei Ling smiles as she is so happy to hear Wai Sun calls her “mother”.

Mei Ling: Wai Sun, let me help you down. We’re home.

Kiu Wai is extremely delighted when he hears Mei Ling declares to Wai Sun that this is home.

Wah Sin then sticks her head out from the carriage and looks around.

Kiu Wai: Come on down Wah Sin.
Wah Sin: Hmmm, where is he?
Kiu Wai: He who?

Wah Sin quickly jumps down the moment she sees Chiu Wai running over to them. Both Mei Ling and Kiu Wai are astounded when Wah Sin and Chiu Wai run to each other and lock themselves into a warming embrace.

Kiu Wai smiles: Ah hah, now I know why she left home to come with us. It’s all because of that little brother of mine.
Mei Ling: Now I understand she was afraid that her grandmother would not accept him.

Chiu Wai and Wah Sin walk hand in hand toward Mei Ling and Kiu Wai.

Chiu Wai: Older brother, what are you doing here? Why are you home?

Chiu Wai looks over to Mei Ling with a perplex look: Who is she?

Kiu Wai puts his hand on his brother’s shoulder: I’ll explain to you later with mother’s presence. So, looks like you’ve found someone special. How long have you kept this a secret?
Chiu Wai smiles shyly and scratches his head: A few years now.
Kiu Wai: You’re pretty good for keeping this from me. And Wah Sin, you’ve never said a word. That’s really good.

Wah Sin and Chiu Wai look at each other and smile.

Kiu Wai holds Mei Ling’s and Kiu Wai’s hands: Come on, let’s go in to look for Mother.

As everyone enters the house, Kiu Wai’s mother walks out with tears her eyes at the sight of her son coming home.

KW’s mother: Kiu Wai, you’re home.

Kiu Wai and his mother hug each other as she sheds happy tears.

Kiu Wai: Yes Mother, not only I’m home, but I’m home for good.
KW’s mother: What? For good?
Kiu Wai: Yes Mother, Wai Sun too.
KW’s mother: Wai Sun? Oh Wai Sun, come to grandmother.

While Wai Sun and Kiu Wai’s mother hug each other, Mei Ling’s presence suddenly catches his mother’s attention. She then smiles and walks over to Mei Ling. Mei Ling warmingly smiles at reaches her hands out to holds Kiu Wai’s mother’s.

Mei Ling acknowledges: Mrs.Miu, I’m happy to meet you.
KW’s mother with her hands holding Mei Ling’s as she turns to Kiu Wai: Who is this lovely lady?

Kiu Wai walks over and puts his arms around Mei Ling: Mother, this is my future wife, Yung Mei Ling, and she is also Wai Sun’s mother.

Kiu Wai’s mother is in shocked when she hears this.

She puts her hand over her mouth and asks: What? Wai Sun’s mother?
Wai Sun quickly runs over and holds Mei Ling’s hand: Yes, grandmother, I’ve just found my real mother.
Kiu Wai: Mother, I will explain everything to you later, including my marriage to Mei Chun. But, at this moment I just want you to know that Mei Ling is the extraordinary woman who was destined to be with me eight years ago. We’ve been through so many ordeals to be together, and Mei Ling has suffered so much. I would like to marry her before she changes her mind. But mother, more than anything, I would like to have your blessing to accept her as daughter in law into the Miu Family.

KW’s mother smiles happily and touches Mei Ling’s face: Oh I like her already. She is so lovely. You don’t need my blessing Kiu Wai because you already got it the moment I laid my eyes on her.

Kiu Wai: Thank you so much mother.

Kiu Wai holds Mei Ling and squeezes her tight as everyone cheers them on.

Kiu Wai to Mei Ling: You heard what my mother has just said, she has accepted you already, so that means that you can’t run away from me anymore.
Wai Sun: That means you can’t leave Father and me anymore Mother! And that also means that you’ll be my teacher forever!

Everyone laughs as Kiu Wai pulls Mei Ling into his body and pinches her cheeks as she smiles and hides her shy face into his chest.

Kiu Wai’s mother announces with tears in her eyes: Our village will witness one of the joyest weddings ever. Kiu Wai and Mei Ling, I will give you both the wedding that has been long overdue and that you truly deserve.

Mrs.Miu comes over to Mei Ling and Kiu Wai and places their hands together as they still exchange their loving smiles.
