As Barbara got out of the car she saw Felix running towards her. “Madam, glad to have found you” he said anxiously. “What happen” she asked as she got out of the car and slams the door shut. “There’s been a homicide down at Kowloon.” “So what are we waiting for? Get in the car” she said excitedly. They got to the scene and saw reporters and on lookers standing by. It took a while for Barbara and Felix pushed through the crowd to get to the scene. “Where are you two going” a uniformed officer demanded. “We’re detectives” they said flashing their badges. “Sorry detectives” he apologized. “It’s ok” Barbara said. “Who is in charge here” she asked the uniformed officer. “That would be Andy, head of the forensic team. There he is” he said pointing a tall handsome guy in his late twenties. “Hi I’m Andy” he greeted them. “Hi I’m Barbara and this is Felix” she introduced. “Can you go over the details with us?” “Sure” he says pulling out his notes. “This looks like a typical homicide. I’m not sure what the motive is. There were 2 bodies found. A female and a child; they were found dead in separate rooms. It looks like they’ve been dead for about 2 days.” Hearing a child was involved made her nauseous. How could the bastard kill an innocent child she thought as she vows to make the person pay.
“Who discovered the bodies” she asked. “The neighbors did, they thought it was strange when they haven’t seen them for a couple days. Then the bad odor coming from the house made them more suspicious” Andy continue. “Look Madam” Margie said running up to her with excitement. All 3 looked up as Margie came towards them. “I’ve found some footprint outside on the balcony.” All 3 rushed to the balcony. It looks like the murderer left this way. She went over to the door to see if there was any forced entry and saw none. The murderer must be someone the victim knew she thought. She turned and asked Margie. “Have you guys questioned the neighbors?” “We’re finishing up. We have interviewed everyone except for the neighbor across the hall” she said looking up from her notes. “Why is that” Barbara asked looking suspiciously at the apartment across from them. “No one is home” Margie said still make notes. “Do the neighbors know who lives there” Barbara continues. “The neighbor said it’s just a guy who’s been living there for about 6 months. Very quiet and keeps to himself. Don’t worry I’m right on it” Margie said with a wink. Knowing Margie has things under control she went around the crime scene to begin her own investigation. The smell of decomposing flesh filled her nostril as she walked over to the room where the female victim was found. She went to the body and notice she was half naked. She assumed the victim was sexually assaulted before she was killed. She looked around for Andy but he was nowhere to be found. Looking at the body she noticed a dark thin line around the victim’s neck. Making a mental note to herself of possible strangulation she began going over to the young child’s body. Inside the room she saw flies swarming and maggots crawling around the tiny body. This is sick she thought as a wave of nausea passed by. The child appeared to be asleep when the intruder came. There was no evidence of a struggle or any physical marks on him. Looking down sadly at the child she still couldn’t believe who would have the heart to kill someone so innocent. “Barbara” she looked up to see who had called her name. Andy walked over to where she was. “I have found some skin tissue underneath the victim’s nail. It looks like she might have struggled with the perpetrator before she was killed.” “Was this victim sexually assaulted” she asked Andy. “Yes she was. We are checking for any semen left behind. She’s been dead for 2 days so we are trying to gather as much evidence as possible” he told her. Nodding her head she looked over to her men. “I’m going to head back. Have the report ready for me once you guys are done. I want to work on this before the case gets cold” she told them. “Yes Madam” they said. “Awwhhh..” Margie groans after she left. “She never knows when to give up. I’ve worked since 7am until now. I’m so tired.” Patting Margie on her back Felix grinned. “You know how pump up she gets. Why don’t you go home and rest and I’ll finish up around here.” “Are you sure” she said as she massages her left shoulder. “It’s almost 6. I’ll wait with you and we can go to happy hour together. I need a drink.” “If she let us go” Felix said with a smirk. “Awwwh…” Margie groans even louder. “Someone find her a boyfriend so she’ll leave us alone” Margie whined. “Don’t let her hear you say that” Felix warned with a smile. “Yeah, yeah, I know” she says with a little pout.
Suddenly they heard a loud crashed coming from outside. Margie and Felix went out to investigate. They could hear footsteps from the intruder echoing down the dimly lit hallway as they follow with their guns drawn. The long hallway was dark and musty. The lights flickering on and off made it impossible to see 3 feet ahead of them. “Margie get behind me” whispered Felix. Margie quickly did as she was told. She held her breath as they got closer to the end of the hallway. EEeck…eeecckk..as a rat ran across her foot. Margie quickly clamped her hands over her mouth to prevent the scream that’s threatening to escape. Felix turned and laughed silently to himself at her expression. At that moment the light shut off leaving them in complete darkness. Unable to see anything Margie pulled out her little flashlight. As she turned it on she caught sight of something reflecting itself off the light. “Watch out” she screamed as she pushed Felix out of the way as the dark figure came running towards them with the shiny object. Arraaaahh!! She screamed as she moved to the side as the blade makes its way through her shoulder. “You son of b****” she cried angrily as she kicks him in the groin. Backing up against the wall she tore a piece of her shirt to bandage her wound. She tried to stop the bleeding while Felix and the intruder struggle on the floor. With the help of her flashlight she saw Felix scrambling to his feet and lands a punch on the attacker’s face.
She quickly search for their pistols and found it underneath one of the boxes. She went over to where Felix was and saw he had the assailant knocked unconscious. “Are you ok” Felix asked Margie concern. “I’ll live” she said with a wry smile. “You’re getting old. These bad guys are getting too feisty for you” she said with a grin as she notices his busted lip. “Look you’re bleeding. Here’s some tissue” she said pulling out a pack of Kleenex from her back pocket. “Thanks” Felix said taking it from her. “So what should we do with him?” “Take him back for Madam to play with” he says with a crooked smile. “Yeah, that would be fun” Margie said wrinkling her little nose. Pulling the attacker up by the arms he and Margie walked back to their car.
By the time they got back to the station and it was already 7:30. Margie and Felix went into their office and found Barbara hunched over her desk deep in thought. She went over each one of the neighbor’s testimony trying to find a clue. “Hi Madam” Margie and Felix said lugging the intruder and threw him into a chair. “Where did you find him at” Barbara asked looking up from her paperwork. “Who?! This thing” Margie snorted. “Yeah, that thing” Barbara replied with a half smile. “We found him snooping outside the crime scene” Felix said in a tired voice. “Really” Barbara asked her eyes gleamed with interest. “Bring him to the interrogating room” she told Felix excitedly. “We’re going to have fun tonight” she said to the intruder with a cynical smile. “You got the wrong person” he pleaded. Ignoring his plea, Felix dragged him into the interrogating room. “Com’on Madam, get some rest first will you? You’re not made out of steel you know” Margie said with a yawn.
Noticing Margie’s wound Barbara went over to examine it. “Are you ok?” “Yeah, it’s nothing I’ve been through worse” Margie said nonchalantly. “Oh I see” Barbara said trying not to laugh. “Maybe you should interrogate your attacker then.”
Margie turned and stared at Barbara in amazement. “You’re not serious, are you” she asked. “Do I look like I’m joking” she asked Margie with a mischievous smile. “No” she groaned loudly. “Go home and see a doctor. I think you need to stitch it up” Barbara told her with a grin. “Ok since you insist” Margie said and left before Barbara could say another word.
