*Chapter 1
Mrs. Wong: Your daughter is so beautiful! Mrs. Yung: Thank you for the compliment Mrs. Wong.
They both watched Barbara water the flowers in the garden. Barbara was wearing a yellow summer dress with a lily on her hair. Her dark hair was blown by light wind. The hot sun was beaming upon her cheeks making turning it into a pink blush.
Mrs. Wong: I think your daughter should enter the Hong Kong pageant, she’s naturally beautiful. Mrs. Yung: I think so too, but she hates the competition. Mei Ling, Mrs. Wong is here to visit, come over here and say hi.
Barbara: Hello, Mrs. Wong! How are you? Mrs. Wong: I’m fine, thank you. I was just telling your mother here, how beautiful you are and that you should enter the pageant. Barbara: Oh no, how could I compete with those beautiful girls, they’ll probably laugh at me because I’m so short. Mrs. Wong: Hey don’t say that, I was watching the pageant from last year and you are a lot prettier than most of the girls on there. You should give it a chance Mei Ling. Barbara: I don’t know Mrs.Wong. You’re the only one that compliments me, Barbara replied jokingly. Mrs. Wong: Just think about the pageant. Barbara: Okay, I will. Thank you for the compliment.
That night…
Mrs. Yung: Mei Ling, what’s the real reason why you don’t want to enter the pageant”? Barbara: I know the pageant is a great opportunity for me to become an actress, but I just hate the competition. There are so many beautiful girls and they only pick one person to win. Mrs. Yung: Yung Mei Ling, you are the most beautiful person I ever seen, and I’m not just saying that because I’m your mother. I want you to enter the pageant because I want the whole world to know how talented my daughter is. Honey, you have the potentials to succeed and you must carry out your dream to become an actress. Barbara: Thank you mother for supporting me, I’ll give it a try.
The next day, Mrs. Yung brought Barbara a ticket to Hong Kong. Deep down inside Mrs. Yung knew how much her daughter wanted to become an actress. She wanted to help her daughter fulfill her dreams.
Mrs. Yung: Mei Ling, I brought you an airline ticket to Hong Kong and you’ll be leaving Saturday afternoon. Barbara: Ma, you don’t have to do that. I was going to save up my own money to buy the ticket. Mrs. Yung: I know, I know honey, but I don’t want you to put off this pageant any longer. I have everything all plan out; you can fly to Hong Kong and stay with your Uncle Tom. Uncle Tom welcomes you and is really excited that you’ll be staying with him for awhile. Barbara: Seems like you have everything all plan out for me mom. Thanks Mom!
That night…
Barbara had a hard time falling asleep. She was tossing and turning in her bed. She was nervous and anxious all at the same time. She hasn’t been to Hong Kong ever since she was 8. The last time she remembers was when Barbara and her mother went to Hong Kong to visit her Uncle Tom. She wondered to herself if the city has changed much? She falls asleep sometime around 4 in the morning. She woke up at 8 am hearing her mother making breakfast in the kitchen. She could smell the chicken porridge from the stove. Even though she was exhausted from the lack of sleep, the smell of the good food woke her nose up. Barbara cannot seem to turn down food. Ever since she was little she could always eat anything she wanted. She was never afraid of getting fat because she was always up and about. Her mother told all her friends that Barbara has the energy as a bull. That’s how she got her slim and petite body, where every girl envied.
Barbara: Good Morning Mother! Mrs. Yung: Good Morning Mei Ling, come over here and eat. She begins to serve Barbara, when Barbara said. Barbara: No mom, you sit and let me serve you. You already prepare this wonderful breakfast for me, this is the least I can do. Mrs. Yung: Okay honey. Barbara grabbed a sthingy and begins to eat her porridge. The first bite was hot and good. She can never resist her mother cooking. She was thinking how much she would miss her mother’s food when she’s in Hong Kong. Mrs. Yung: Have you finish packing? Barbara: Yes mother. Mrs. Yung begins to cry as she looks at her daughter. Mrs. Yung: Remember Mei Ling, I’m won’t be with you anymore so you need to be careful. Don’t worry too much about the pageant, just try your best. Barbara: Thanks mom, I won’t let you down.
Mrs. Yung wiped the tears from her daughter face. Mrs. Yung: Okay now eat up, we need to get you to airport. Barbara: Ma, are you going to be okay by yourself? Mrs. Yung: Of course, I’ll be okay honey. I’m a strong woman. I took care of you, didn’t I? They both smile and hug each other tightly.
The ride to the airplane was long. Barbara felt uneasy leaving her mother home alone. Ever since the death of her father, Barbara and her mother has been really close. She was the only child, so her mother spoiled Barbara with everything. Even though she always got what she wanted, she was never selfish or greedy. Fortunately, she appreciated and respected her mother more and more. She respected her mother for being a widow and working two jobs to support Barbara. Barbara wanted to be independent just like her mother. This was the first time they will part and Barbara was frighten and anxious all at the same time. She knew that there will be many opportunities for her in Hong Kong.

*Chapter 2
She was so overwhelmed when she got off the plane. She found herself in the terminal with hundreds of people. She held her bag tightly against her chest and slowly squeezed through all the passengers. When she got her luggage she stepped out in the street of Hong Kong. It was hot day in Hong Kong. Traffic was loud and she couldn’t hear herself think. Then she heard her name.
“Mei Ling!” “Mei Ling!” She turned her head and saw a man in his mid. 40’s. It took her awhile to recognize Uncle Tom.
Uncle Tom: Hi Mei Ling! How are you? Barbara: I’m fine Uncle Tom. Wow! I didn’t even recognize you. Uncle Tom: I know, I gotten old. Let me help you with your luggage? Let’s get out of this crowd and go home. You have turn to a beautiful young lady Mei Ling. Barbara: Thanks Uncle Tom.
Uncle Tom caught a taxi for them. The drive to Uncle Tom’s home was quiet. Barbara was thinking to herself, how Uncle Tom have age. She notice streaks of gray hair on his head, the corner of his eyes were wrinkle. He felt sorry for him because last year his wife just passed away from cancer.
The ride to Uncle Tom home was short. He lived in the busy street of Hong Kong. The taxi pulled up a beige apartment complex. They approached the building and a security guard greeted Uncle Tom. Uncle Tom introduced his niece Mei Ling. As they enter the elevator, they begin to talk.
Uncle Tom: How’s your mother? Barbara: She’s great. She wanted to visit, but she had to stay and take care of some business. Uncle Tom, how long have you live here? Uncle Tom: About 2 years. The neighbors are really nice, so you don’t have to worry about anything.
As they reached Uncle Tom’s apartment. Uncle Tom’s showed Mei Ling around and where she would be staying. It was a small two bedroom apartment. The apartment was facing the street.
Uncle Tom: I apologized, the place is messy. I’ve been really busy lately. Barbara: It’s okay Uncle Tom. I’m very thankful that I have a place to stay in Hong Kong. Uncle Tom: Barbara, why don’t you get some rest? I know you must be tired from your long flight. I’m going to work. I’m off at 7pm. Maybe we can get something to eat later. Barbara: Thanks Uncle Tom. I’ll see you later.
As Uncle Tom left. Barbara walked around the apartment. She began to unpack her clothes. After she finished packing, she called her mom and told her she made it to Hong Kong. After talking to her mom, she lay in her bed thinking. She fell into a deep sleep.
“Mei Ling”! Someone was calling her name. She heard a deep male voice. “Take my hand Mei Ling! She felt the warmth from his hand and the comfort of his voice. They held each other tight. She felt so safe and protected. She had never felt so happy in her life. She couldn’t see his image, but she knew he was tall, mysterious and handsome. He whispered into her ears. “I will never let you go Mei Ling.”
She woke up!! Barbara couldn’t believe it was a dream. It felt so real. She was so disappointed. Oh how she wish the dream would come true. She felt so safe in this person arms. She doesn’t know who it was, but she was deeply in love with that person. Then she felt silly. How could someone fall in my dream?
The next day, Barbara took a taxi to the TVB station. TVB was big popular television station that promoted the Miss Hong Kong pageant. There was already a line from the entrance. Girls were lining up getting an application for the pageant. She couldn’t believe there were so many girls signing up for the pageant. Barbara knew the competition would be fierce. She thought to herself that she would not stand a change with all these girls.
Barbara waited in line for 5 straight hours. She finally got an application. After she got it, she was so relief, but also hungry. The sun was down and the day was almost over. She walked around the area, looking for a place to eat. The street was crowded as usual. Traffic was beginning to start in the street. She passed a crowded noodle house filled with high school kids. The kids just got out from school and were relaxing from their hard day at school.
She decided to come in an order something to eat. The waiter led her to a booth behind the cash register. The waiter asked her what she wanted to eat. She told him, she wanted a bowl of won ton soup. Then she heard a voice from the corner. “Don’t get the won ton soup; it’s not that good here. This noodle house is known for their chow fun noodle.” A man from the corner approached her and smiled.
Barbara: I’ll have the chow fun noodle then. Waiter: Yes ma’am.
Kent: I’m sorry miss. I didn’t mean to disturb you, but I couldn’t let you order the won ton noodle soup. I had some last week and it’s terrible. There was no flavor and they overcharged you. Barbara: Thanks! Kent: Do you mind if I sit with you? Barbara hesitated for a little bit. She felt a little force. Kent: I promise I won’t bite. Barbara: Sure. Kent: My name is Kent. Barbara: I’m Barbara. Kent: Nice to meet you Barbara. You’re not from around here, are you? Barbara: No, I’m not. I’m new around this area. Kent: I thought so, because everyone here knows that this noodle house is known for their chow fun. Where are you from? Barbara: I’m from England. Kent: Wow! That’s far. May I ask you why you’re in Hong Kong? Barbara: My mother talked me into joining the Hong Kong pageant. Kent: Really? That’s good; I think you’re pretty enough. Barbara: Thanks!
The waiter brought out the chow fun and she ate it quickly. Kent was right, the chow fun was delicious.
Kent: Wow! You must be hungry. I’ve never seen anyone ate that quickly before. Barbara: I’m so sorry! I’ve didn’t eat anything all day. (She begins to blush.)
They finished eating and Kent offered to walk Barbara home. Barbara: You don’t have too; I don’t live far from here. Kent: It’s not safe to walk around this area by yourself, especially when you’re so pretty. Barbara: Thank you! Barbara thought to herself, so if I’m ugly you won’t walk me home then. Kent: I know you’re new around this area, but I would love to take you around sometime. Just to show you around Hong Kong. Barbara: Sure, that’ll be nice.
They reached her Uncle’s apartment and Kent and said their farewells. Barbara had an uneasy feeling about Kent. Kent is portrayed as an aggressive person, but she didn’t mind having a friend in Hong Kong. The way he approached her didn’t make her comfortable. She feels that she was forced in being his friend. Being a nice person as Barbara she didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.
It took Barbara the rest of the night to finished filling out the pageant application. The application was long. It asked about employment and family background. She never had to fill out anything so long before. She felt like she was back in school. Staying up late studying and preparing for exams. Barbara heard the pageant was strict and wasn’t easy to get in. Tomorrow was the pageant tryouts and she had to be ready for it.

*Chapter 3
The next day, Kent was waiting for Barbara outside of her apartment. When she walked out she saw him standing there with bouquet of flowers. He approached her…
Kent: Hi Barbara! How are you? Barbara: I’m fine, thank you. What are you doing here? Kent: I just wanted to bring you some flowers and wish you luck on your tryouts today. Barbara: That’s really thoughtful of you. Thanks!
They begin to walk towards the TVB station. They share an uncomfortable silence. Barbara could tell he was nervous and she knew what he was going to say…
Kent: I’m not really good at this. Ever since I saw you yesterday, I can’t stop thinking about you. You have the most glorious eyes ever.
Barbara smiled and replied: Let me cut out my eyes and give them to you. They both share a laugh. Barbara was always happy and cheerful. Everyone enjoyed being around her because of her upbeat attitude.
As the reached the corner of the TVB station, they could see a long line. Girls were in their best outfits waiting outside of the station.
Kent: Let me take you out to lunch? Barbara: I don’t know, I think I’ll be here for a long time. Kent: Okay, what about dinner? Barbara: Sure! Kent: I’ll pick you up at 7. What is your apartment number? Barbara: 220 Kent: Okay! See you then. Good luck today! Barbara: Thanks! I’ll need it.
The first tryouts were the screening process. The girls were required to submit their applications and sit for a group interviews. Barbara was in a group with 5 other girls. The directors took turns asking the girls questions regarding their beliefs, family and educational background. The sessions last about 2 hours.
The directors could tell all the girls were nervous, except for Barbara. While the other girls were stutter when answering their questions. Barbara answered her questions thoroughly and in a professional manner. Barbara’s attitude brightens up the room with her unique smile. She definitely going to get a call back, whisper one of the girls.

*Chapter 4
On the way home it was raining.
Barbara was busy analyzing how she did on tryouts. A little boy ran pass her and accidentally knocked her over on the sidewalk. She landed right in the middle of the street pavement. Just then a big truck was heading straight towards here. Barbara was in state of shock. There was no time to run, she couldn’t get up. Just then she saw her life passed by her. Memories of her childhood, mother and England passed by her. She was thinking to herself. Is this it? Am I going to die? Nooooo!! I don’t want to die yet!!!
Then all of a sudden someone grabbed her from behind and pushed her to the sidewalk. She collapsed onto the ground and faint. Right before she fainted, she heard the voice a man. She recognized the voice, the same voice she had from her dream. “Are you okay Miss? Miss!”
Barbara didn’t know how long she was out. She woke up with a pounding headache.
Where am I? What happened? Am I alive? The last thing she remembered was the truck coming straight towards her. Barbara had never been so confused in her life. Just then a nurse came in to check on her.
Nurse: I’m so glad you’re up! Barbara: What happen? Nurse: Your husband brought you in. He said you almost got ran over by a truck. Barbara thought to herself, I have a husband?
Then she remembered the voice she heard before she was unconscious. When the truck was coming at her, someone push her off the street. Someone save her life. She recognized his voice. It was the same voice from her dream.
Barbara: I don’t have a husband. Nurse: Oh I’m sorry! I thought he was your husband. He was so sad when he brought you in; he had this worry look on his face that made me want to cry. He didn’t want to leave you and he held your hand tightly. Barbara: Where is he now? Nurse: I don’t know. He was just outside earlier. Barbara: Whoever this person is, I really want to thank him.
Uncle Tom and Kent entered the room.
Uncle Tom: I came as soon as I heard. Are you okay? Barbara: I’m fine, just have a bad headache. Uncle Tom: It’s good to see you’re safe or else I wouldn’t know how to explain it to your mother. I’m so glad Kent found you and brought you in safely. Barbara: Kent, you brought me in? Kent: Yes! You fainted in the middle of the sidewalk. Barbara thought to herself, I could of sworn I heard someone else voice, not Kent.
Kent: Barbara, are you okay? Barbara: Yeah, I’m fine. Thanks! Kent: You should get some more rest. You look exhausted.
Kent and Uncle Tom went home.
Barbara couldn’t sleep that night. She couldn’t stop thinking about the accident. Even though she was unconscious she heard the voice clearly. She was sure that it wasn’t Kent who brought her in. She couldn’t stand it and went out to check with the nurse.
Barbara: Nurse, do you remember the person who submitted me to the hospital? Nurse: Oh yes! He was a very handsome man. Barbara: He saved my life and I want to say thank you. Unfortunately, I don’t know who he is. Can I see the paperwork that was filled out when he brought me in? Nurse: Sure (Nurse handed Barbara’s the remittance paperwork.)
There it is… Kiu Wai, Miu. Mr. Miu Kiu Wai?
Barbara thought to herself, who is Miu Kiu Wai? Was he the person who saved my life? If so, where is he? Why would Kent said he saved my life?
The next day, Barbara was allowed to go home. Barbara’s injuries weren’t severe, but had her shock the whole night. Barbara’s life went back to normal, but she couldn’t stop thinking about Miu Kiu Wai. Barbara told herself that she had to get to the bottom of this situation. She didn’t know what or who to believe?

*Chapter 5
A week later, Barbara received a call back from TVB. She passed the interview and they wanted her to proceed with the pageant. They wanted her to come in and start practicing for the pageant show. Barbara had never been so excited in her life. She called her mother and gave her the good news.
Kent also heard about the good news and offer to take her to dinner to celebrate. She didn’t want to lead him on, but he was persistent to take her to dinner. He couldn’t take no for an answer. So Barbara ends up going with him.
Kent wanted to introduce Barbara to some of his friends. He knew with Barbara great looks, he could make all of his friends jealous. He wanted to show his all his buddies the girl he wanted to pursue. He was dying to tell them that Barbara made it in the pageant. Kent was the type of guy who likes to brag in front of his friends and make them feel bad.
Barbara had no feelings for Kent. He wasn’t her type, but she didn’t want to break his heart. He was her only friend in Hong Kong and she didn’t want to lose him.
Knock! Knock!
Barbara: Hi Kent! Kent: Hi Barbara! Wow! You look amazing! Barbara: Thanks! Kent: Ready to go? Barbara: Sure! Where are you taking me? Kent: Well first, I’m taking you to this Italian restaurant and then later on we’re meeting some of my friends at the karaoke bar. Barbara: Sounds like fun.
The drive to the restaurant was quiet. Kent couldn’t hold a conversation very long. He was the shy type that never had many girlfriends. Barbara could feel the tensions in the car. She tried to strike a conversation.
Barbara: So who are we meeting at the karaoke bar tonight? Kent: My friend: Andy, Michael, Felix, Tony and Tony’s girlfriend Margie. Barbara: That’s good. I don’t want to be the only girl there.
They continue driving in silence. Barbara couldn’t think what else to say.
When they arrived at the restaurant. Barbara had seafood pasta with a glass of red wine. Kent didn’t enjoy his meal very much, because he had an argument about the bad service. Barbara was embarrassed because Kent was making a big deal out of nothing. The waiter apologized, but Kent would not let it go.
After dinner, Kent and Barbara walked around the corner to a nearby karaoke bar. The waiter led them to a large private room.
Kent: Don’t worry Barbara. This is a great place. I come here all the time. (The music was so loud, Barbara had a hard time hearing what Kent was saying.) Barbara: I can’t hear you.
As they were entered the room. A handsome guy was already singing.
Kent: Hi Everyone! Everyone: Hi Kent!
Andy stopped singing and put down the microphone. Andy: Wow! Who’s this cutie? Kent: Everyone this is Barbara, my girlfriend.
Barbara was speechless. She didn’t know how to react. Here she is standing in a room full of strangers and then Kent introduced her as his girlfriend. Should I correct him? Oh no! If I correct him, then he would get embarrassed. Why would he lie to his friends? Does he really want to show me off? Barbara held in her anger and forced herself to smile.
Margie: Hi Barbara! I’m Margie. Barbara: Hi Margie! Nice to meet you. Margie: Same here! How long have you and Kent known each other? Barbara: Not too long. He was the first person I met in Hong Kong. Margie: That’s nice.
Andy: Allowed me to introduce myself. My name is Andy “the love machine” Lau. Barbara: The love machine? Barbara couldn’t help it but giggle. Andy: That’s what girls called me. (Barbara laughed harder.) Andy: Hey what’s so funny? Tony: Excuse him Barbara. Andy here is a little flirt. He likes to hit on anything that walks. I’m Tony! Barbara: Hi Tony! Very nice to meet you.
Felix: Hi Barbara! I’m Felix. Barbara: Hi Felix!
Barbara begins to cheer up a little bit. She felt so comfortable talking and singing with Kent’s friend. She thought to herself, Kent is so different from his friends. They are so outgoing and he’s so uptight.
Tony asks Andy.
Tony: Hey Andy! Did you called Michael yet? How come he’s not here yet? Andy: Michael left me a message and said he stuck with Jamie again. Tony: Again! That girl never leaves Michael alone.
Barbara: Is Jamie Michael’s girlfriend? Andy: Not really. They were in a movie together and ever since then. She wouldn’t leave him alone. Barbara: That’s weird.
Barbara had so much fun with Kent’s friend that she forgot how angry she was with him. All of them drank, sang, and talked all night long.
Kent felt a little jealous how well she got along with his friends and not spending any time with him. He made an excuse and left early.
Kent: Hey Felix! Can you take Barbara home? Felix: Sure! Kent: I got something important I need to do. (Kent was hoping that Barbara would want to go with him.) Barbara: Okay Kent! I’ll see you later. Kent: Okay bye! (Kent stormed out of the bar in a hurry.)
Margie: Barbara you are so fun to be with. Barbara: Thanks Margie! You are too!!
The girls enjoyed their last beer and the guys took them home.

*Chapter 6
The next couple of weeks were busy for Barbara. Rehearsals, practices, and performances all in preparation for the Miss Hong Pageant Show. Barbara had never been so tired in her whole life. The only motivation she had was her mother. She wanted to make something of herself and didn’t want to let her mother down. The lack of sleep and food has caused her to become thinner day by day. This caused all the contestants at the show to envy her more and more. There was so more competition among the girls in the pageant. Girls were competing to be the tallest, prettiest, and thinnest.
Barbara was at the TVB station every single day from 5 in the morning to 2 in the morning. Kent had tried calling her everyday, but she had not returned his call. Ever since the night she met his friends, she was still really upset with Kent. Barbara knows that Kent like her a lot, but she only sees him as a brother. She didn’t like the fact that he told his friends that she was his girlfriend. She felt like she was force in the relationship.
On the big day Barbara was so excited. She went to the station early to get ready. The Miss Hong Kong Pageant was such a big event. The show was being broadcast live and the admission to get in range from hundreds of dollars. Only celebrities and the rich were able to attend this special event.
Jamie Chik, the daughter of the millionaire attended the show with actor Miu Kiu Wai. Jamie’s father was a successful business man. He was a rich man with a lot of power. Jamie was the only daughter so she was spoiled and usually gets anything she wanted. Jamie wanted Kiu Wai and she wasn’t going to take no for an answer. Kiu Wai only sees Jamie as a sister, but he was pressure in taking her to the show.
The show was about to begin.
Jamie: I don’t know what’s so important about this stupid pageant. The girls aren’t even that pretty. Michael: The girls compete to win the title of Miss Hong Kong Pageant. This is not something stupid. This is what the girls believe in and we should respect that. Jamie: Mumbled (Whatever!!)
The music begun to play and the two hosts entered the stage.
Female Host: Good Evening! Thank you for attending 1982 Miss Hong Kong Pageant. Tonight we have so many beautiful and talented women who want to win the title of Miss Hong Kong. Male Host: We have a very special show for you tonight. To start off the show, Andy Lau will sing a song from his new album.
The music begun to start and Andy stepped on stage. The crowd applauded and cheers loudly.
Michael: Andy sure knows how to get the crowd going. Jamie: Yes! I know this song is so romantic. (Jamie lean closer to Michael and put her head on his shoulder.)
Andy finished his song and step offstage.
Male Hostess: Thank you Andy! Female Hostess: Now on with the show.

*Chapter 7 The girls were getting ready backstage. The first part of the show was the evening gowns. The girls were supposed to wear the traditional Chinese outfit and walk on stage. As they were walking on the stage the hostess was to introduce them.
The song began to play.
Eight girls were in front of Barbara. She was so nervous, she couldn’t breathe. Then she forced herself to breath.
Barbara: I have to be strong. I cannot fail.
The girls were stepping on stage one by one.
Jamie to Michael: These girls aren’t even that pretty. I can go up there. Michael laughing: Sure you can!
It was Barbara’s turn. Her face turned bright red. She was shaking a little. She couldn’t move. Then she forced herself to walk across stage. She was making her way across the stage.
Male Host: And we now have Miss Barbara Yung Mei Ling.
Michael looked up and saw Barbara. He was frozen and he couldn’t breathe. He stood up from his seat starring into her big bright eyes.
(In Michael’s thoughts.)
My God! This must be the most beautiful person I ever seen. There was something different and special about this girl. She stood out from the rest. She looks so familiar. Oh I remember she almost got ran over by the bus and I pushed her out of the way. God! She is electrifying. I don’t remember her being so beautiful.
At this time, Jamie was talking to him, but he couldn’t hear anything she was saying. He opened his mouth, but nothing comes out. Time just stood still. He got lost starring deep into her eyes.
(In Barbara’s thoughts.)
I’m doing fine! I’m doing fine. I’m almost there. Just need to pass by the judges and smile and everything will be okay. Who’s this guy standing up? How rude? Can’t he see that he’s making a scene? Why is he staring at me?
Jamie: Michael, sit down. Everyone is starring at us!
Michael realized he was standing up, so he sat back down quickly. People were still starring at him and Michael began to blush showing his big dimples.
Male Hostess: Wow! Seems like Barbara caught some attentions from our audience. People are getting off there seats for her. (The audience applauded and laughed.)
Barbara’s face became bright red bringing out her dimples. She exited the stage while the audience applauds.
Michael couldn’t concentrate. All he could think about was Barbara. Even though, she left the stage, he was looking up every time at every contestant. In hope that Barbara would come back out. She is truly amazing. Barbara’s eyes, lips, and smile have captivated his heart.
The last time I remember seeing her was when I pushed her out from the bus. She was unconscious and I wanted to take her to the hospital. Then I had a phone call from Jamie saying she had an emergency and wanted me to come over her house. Then when I went to Jamie’s house, she was crying saying that she missed me. I really didn’t want to leave Barbara. I wanted to take her to the hospital. Luckily I ran into my buddy Kent and he offer to take her to the hospital. What happen after that?

*Chapter 8
Barbara was backstage getting ready for the next act. The next part of the show was the swimsuit contest. The contestants were supposed to wear matching bathing suit in different colors. Barbara wore a blue bathing suit. While she was touching up her makeup she couldn’t help but think about the guy who stood out of his seat.
He looks so familiar to her. But she couldn’t figure out where she seen him at. Somehow she felt she known him for so long. He gave her a feeling of joy and excitement. He couldn’t keep his eyes off her, it seems like his eyes were trying to tell her something. She was flatter by his reaction. Just thinking about him again made her blush.
Female Host: Now we have the swimsuit contest. Aaron Kwok will sing his new song “Tell Me Why” as he escorted the ladies down the stage. Male Host: What a luck guy? I wish I was Aaron!
The crowd laughed harder.
The music starts to play and Aaron step on stage. Again, the crowd went crazy. Girls were screaming Aaron names from all directions. Barbara was overwhelmed by the excitement. Girls stepped on stage one by one trying to impress the judges. Barbara on the other hand wasn’t paying attention to judges or Aaron. .
As Barbara step on stage, she kept an eye out for Michael. She looked around trying to find him. She wanted to get a better look of him this time. Then she saw him from the crowd and to her surprise he was staring straight at her. This time, their eyes meet. Barbara noticed that he was an attractive man. Michael hair was cut short and he was wearing a dark suit. He was tall, strong-built and very handsome. Michael smiled at Barbara and she began to blush showing her peach cheek. This time, Michael notice her deep dimples as she smile back.
Michael thought to himself: Why is she staring at me? She must of notice me. She’s so cute!
At this time Jamie was concentrating on Michael and Barbara. Her face became bright red, not the cute way Barbara was. She was steaming up getting ready to yell at Michael. Then she thought to herself… Wait! I have no right to yell at Michael if he stares at another girl. I’m not his girlfriend. I’m nothing to him, just a friend.
They continued to stare at each other until Barbara disappeared behind the curtain. Michael was disappointed because he missed her already.
Jamie with an angry tone: Did you starred enough yet? He forgot that Jamie was sitting next to him. Michael was embarrassed. He didn’t know Jamie was starring at them. Michael being the nice guy he was apologized.
Michael: I’m sorry Jamie. I didn’t mean to ignore you. Were you saying something? Jamie: If you were to stop starring at her then you would listen to me. Michael: Are you jealous? Jamie: No! Why should I be? I know I’m a lot more pretty then she is and rich. Any guy would rather choose a rich woman then anything.
At this time, Michael was ignoring her again. He thought about Barbara’s natural beauty. Barbara’s skin complexion was milky as a baby’s face. She was petite and very thin. The way she walked was so sexy and elegant. She presented herself really well as she crossed the stage. She was perfect in every way.

*Chapter 9
Jamie excused herself to go to the bathroom. She really wanted to speak to her bodyguard Sam.
Sam smiling: Enjoying the show Miss? (Sam’s been watching them from the hallway and saw everything. He smiled because he knew Michael was into another girl.) Jamie: No! I want you to get rid of that girl. Sam: What!? Jamie: I don’t care what you do, but I want her to disappear. She’s standing in the way of mine and Michael’s relationship. Sam: Relationship? Jamie: Yes! I want her lose.
Sam knew Jamie was serious. He had to obey her command because the Chik family was a powerful family in Hong Kong. Of all the years, he worked for the family, he never seen her so mad before. He didn’t want to hurt Barbara, but had no choice. He knows that if he didn’t obey Jamie his own family would be in jeopardy.
Sam snuck out and told his little brother to carry out Jamie’s command. Sam: Get rid of the girl quickly! Make it quick and clean! Little brother: Yes Big brother!
As Barbara was leaving the stage and walking down the staircase, she felt a strong push on back. The push was so strong that it caught her off guard. Barbara screamed! She fell down the staircase and was knocked out unconscious.
Everyone surrounded Barbara to help her up. The fall was so hard that her head was bleeding. The commotion backstage caught the hosts attention.
Male Host: We apologized about the commotion. We just got news that one of our contestants was injured backstage and is now unconscious. Female Hostess: Barbara Yung is her name. I feel so sorry for her. I hope she’s okay.
Right when Michael heard Barbara’s name. He was in a state of shock. What?! How could that be? She was just up there? That’s can’t be her. He jumped from his seat and ran backstage.
Jamie: Where are you going?!
Michael ignored Jamie’s call and continues running back stage. He doesn’t know what’s running through his mind right now. The only thing that matter was Barbara’s well being.
Two guards standing by the backstage entrance. Guard: Sir! You can’t go back here. This area is restricted.
Michael didn’t care and push his way through the guards. Surprise by his own strength, Michael was shock himself what he just done. He made his way through the backstage entrance in search of Barbara.
Then he saw her. A crowd of people were surrounding Barbara. Michael rushed over and saw her lying there helplessly.

*Chapter 10
Michael yelled: Someone called the paramedics! Voice from the crowd: Their on the way!
Michael felt useless. He didn’t want to wait there and wait for the paramedics. Michael felt silly. He knows he barely knows the girl, but holding her felt so right. Michael held Barbara closed to him trying to protect her everyone.
The paramedics finally came and rushed Barbara to the hospital. At the hospital the doctor rushed her to the emergency room. Michael waited outside impatiently pacing back and forth. She was in the emergency room for an hour, then a nurse step out.
Michael: Nurse, is she okay? Nurse: Yes! She’s lost a lot of blood from the fall, but she passed the critical stage. Michael gave a sign of relief: Whew! Nurse: Is she your wife? Michael: Oh no! She’s umm….she’s umm….no one to me. Nurse: Wow! Sounds like you really care about this girl. Michael: I don’t know.
It just occur to Michael how concern he with Barbara’s safety. He was a little embarrassed. For all he knows, Barbara might be involved with someone already. Then he realized both of the times he ran into Barbara, she was unconscious.
It was 2 in the morning, Michael was so busy with Barbara, he totally forgot about the time. He decided to go home and rest up. He wanted to come back early next morning to check up on Barbara.
That night in Michael’s dream.
He saw an image of an angel-like figure walking along the side of a lake. The sun was setting on the lake which gave off warmth. The figure moved gracefully and ever so gentle. As he came closer he smelled a strong scent of roses. Butterflies came and surrounded the woman.
Michael was drawn to the beautiful woman. She seems to be the only attractions in the lake. As he came closer, he hears her weeping silently. He hesitated to come any closer because he didn’t want to frighten the woman. He didn’t know her or why she was crying, but he felt sad for her. He lightly tapped her shoulder…
Beep! Beep! Beep! He woke up hearing the sound of his alarm clock. He was so frustrated he couldn’t see the woman in his dream. He sat in bed thinking while the alarm clock continues to beep.
Who is she? Why is she crying? What does this dream mean?
